ACADEMY
Hōkūleʻa Academy of Polynesian Arts seeks to enhance the development of our students throughout their entire educational experience. Our teachers are talented and creative professionals, who are passionate about providing quality education in Polynesian dance. With a strict focus on accurate technique and style, an authentic result can be achieved. Whether registered in a class at the academy or in a group setting offsite in a workshop or seminar, our highly qualified teachers and choreographers offer the tools and support necessary to allow every student to reach their full potential.
Polynesian Dance Classes
Classes at Hōkūleʻa are available for Children (ages 5+), teens, adults and seniors for boys, girls, men and women. Our technique driven curriculum is taught in a progressive learning style. Classes run on a monthly basis and we do not offer drop-ins, sessions or seasons. Our teachers are highly trained professionals keeping the Polynesian techniques and dance styles that they teach current and up to date. They too are continuously learning direct from their teachers in and around the islands. The material taught, shared and passed down to the students at Hōkūkeʻa is a fresh balance of authenticity and accuracy.
Guest Artist Workshops
Looking for something different to offer your dancers or PE classes? Interested in adding a cultural piece to your next dance show or recital that will wow the audience? Look no further. Hōkūleʻa has skilled professionals that specialize in working with young adults in dance teams, cultural clubs or school orchesis groups. Let our energetic and outgoing teachers work with your students, club or team. We can even provide authentic costume rentals.
Te Mana Ora
Te Mana Ora is Chicago's premier Polynesian seminar offering weekend long workshops in dance, music and crafting. This bi-annual event brings Polynesian artists into Chicago to learn directly from some of Polynesia's most accomplished musicians, teachers and crafters that we host so that artists can have a chance to learn direct from the source.
