About The Job
Hōkūleʻa Academy is looking for passionate and dedicated Polynesian Dance Teachers to join our team and inspire students of all ages through the beauty of Polynesian culture. As a Polynesian Dance Teacher, you will lead engaging and culturally rich dance classes in traditional Polynesian dance styles, including Hawaiian Hula, 'Ori Tahiti, Siva Samoa, and more. You will have the opportunity to teach students of varying experience levels, sharing your knowledge of Polynesian traditions and dance techniques while creating a supportive and motivating environment.
Additionally, you will play a crucial role in preparing students for academy productions and performances, working alongside other teachers and choreographers to ensure students are ready to showcase their talents in front of live audiences.
This is a part-time, hourly position, with some flexibility in class scheduling. Teachers will be expected to create lesson plans based on Academy outline, lead classes, and foster an environment of respect for Polynesian culture, Community, Care, Confidence, and Growth.
What Weʻre Looking For

Dance Experience: Proven experience in teaching or performing Polynesian dance, including Hawaiian Hula, 'Ori Tahiti, Siva Samoa, or other Polynesian dance forms.

Cultural Knowledge: A strong understanding of Polynesian culture and traditions, with a desire to continue to learn more about this and share this knowledge with students.

Teaching Skills: Previous experience teaching dance or leading group classes. Ability to clearly explain movements, provide feedback, and encourage student progress.

Production Experience: Ability to contribute to the preparation for academy performances and productions. Teachers will work with students on staging, choreography, and rehearsal schedules for public events.

Physical Fitness: Must be in good physical condition, able to demonstrate dance techniques, and encourage students to maintain flexibility, strength, and stamina.

Passion for Education: A love for teaching and motivating students of all skill levels, from beginners to intermediate.

Professionalism: Strong work ethic, punctuality, and reliability. Ability to maintain a positive and supportive attitude in the classroom.

Team Player: Ability to collaborate with fellow teachers and administrative staff to create an enriching and cohesive learning environment.

Once hired, you will begin teaching classes on a set schedule and receive support to help you settle into your role.
